Doanh Nguyen, MD FAAAAI
Senior Scientific Collaborator, Institute for Allergic Inflammation
Allergist Immunologist | Texas Allergy Group
Dr. Doanh Nguyen is board-certified allergist and immunologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Allergy & Immunology, the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Nguyen earned his bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Houston and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his internal medicine residency at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University, followed by fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles and the University of South Florida. His fellowship research focused on subcutaneous immunoglobulin therapy for primary humoral immunodeficiency and atopic dermatitis, and he helped establish a standardized Atopic Dermatitis Clinic during his training. He has served as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine since 2015.
Dr. Nguyen's current research, conducted through the Texas Allergy Group Clinical Research Unit and the Institute for Allergic Inflammation, focuses on systemic allergic inflammation, inflammatory biomarkers, and clinical mechanisms of tolerance breaking. His investigations examine connections between chronic airway inflammation and remote epithelial dysfunction, proteinuria, thyroiditis, viral activation, and early autoimmunity. He is committed to developing biomarker-guided therapeutic interventions that detect and mitigate systemic inflammation before organ-level complications occur.
Dr. Nguyen also has extensive expertise in mast cell diseases, including Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), chronic urticaria, angioedema, and complex mast-cell-driven inflammatory disorders. He provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and individualized treatment plans for patients with mast cell-related symptoms ranging from multisystem reactivity to chronic inflammatory manifestations.
Dr. Nguyen cares for children and adults with asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, chronic cough, hives, eczema, food allergies, drug and insect allergies, primary immunodeficiency, MCAS, and conditions driven by systemic allergic inflammation. He is particularly dedicated to improving quality of life for patients with severe eczema, asthma, chronic hives, mast cell disorders, and immune dysregulation.
